Consider yourself a fan of the horror franchise Scream or at least a fan of the original? Then this news will either excite or dismay you, MTV executives are working on bringing Ghostface to your screen on a weekly basis. This is an interesting development for many reasons both potentially positive and negative. I personally am a huge fan of the franchise but I am torn about if I should be excited or be concerned.
I will start with the positives. It would be cool to see a season long development of who is Ghostface as appose to an hour and a half long movie. And to be honest that is where my excitement ends because there are a lot of question marks about who would be involved. There are three essential names in all of the Scream films, Wes Craven, Kevin Williamson, and Neve Campbell. Not knowing much about any of these individuals I would guess Craven and Campbell will not be among the credits. Williamson I am still uncertain about because writers can be very versatile.
The negatives are pretty obvious. All revolving around the fact that the show will be on MTV! The channel’s programs revolve around their reality television like Jersey Shore which audiences love or love to hate. Last night also debuted there TV take on Teen Wolf which is receiving mixed reviews. But to me I think it all comes down to if Kevin Williamson is involved with the creative development of the show. He knows the flow of the series and he said in interviews leading up to the release of Scream 4 that he had plans for sequels should the fourth film perform in the box office, which it sadly did not. So if they could transcend Williamson’s ideas for each sequel into a season think could have great potential.
But I am always interested in other people’s thoughts on the subject so feel free to comment!
